Dental Dentures

Dentures are a removable replacement option for patients who have had teeth removed.
Partial Dentures vs. Full Dentures

There are two types of dentures, partial dentures and full dentures. Partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. Typically the framework includes metal clasps or other attachments which hold the appliance in place by anchoring to existing teeth. Full dentures are a removable option for patients who need all their teeth replaced.

Full dentures consist of a gum-colored base with prosthetic teeth. They are crafted to provide the tooth shape and color that the patient desires. Full dentures rest on the gum ridge once all of the teeth have been removed.

Pitfalls of Poorly-Fit Dentures

Poorly crafted dentures can decrease your confidence when speaking or laughing, and even cause gum sores if they are not fitted correctly. Petaluma Family Dentistry can help you restore your dentures to the correct fit. To improve the fit of your dentures, we often recommend using dental implants as an anchor, which can significantly improve comfort – even in patients who have used dentures for several years.
